Hawaii is a bit of an obsession with the Japanese, so I always find it weird when I find a piece of home when I visit. Leonard’s is a famous shop here in Honolulu (it’s practically an institution) that specializes in malasadas, a deep-fried Portuguese donut that’s coated in granulated sugar. Malasadas are a part of local Hawaii culture (and most locals associate Leonard’s with malasadas), but it has grown in popularity in Japan, particularly among those who have visited the islands. Still, it was quite a surprise to see this shop tucked into a little corner of the World Porters building in Yokohama’s Minato Mirai area. The second photo is a picture of a Japan-only flavor, maccha (green tea) custard-filled malasada. Yummy! -- source link
