The difference between 활옷(활의) and 원삼 is that the former almost always features elaborate hand-embroidery on the back featuring lotus flowers and other special symbols such as cranes, fruits, butterflies; while 원삼 primarily features gold foil and maybe emboidered patches on the shoulder or chest.
