J, midnattsløype over Geirangerfjorden, More and Romsdal, Norge, juni 1984.A midnight hike, a stroll really, a few days before midsummer night (midsommernatt)! While the Geiranger is a number of kilometers south of the Arctic Circle, there is abundant daylight at midnight in mid-June even though the sun is below the horizon for an hour or two each night. My cousin has a farm just below this scene, a photo taken above the junction of the Geiranger and the Stor Fjords. There are about 6 weeks of constant light in the summer, while the farm close to the water does not see direct sunlight for about 6 weeks each winter. The sky lights up some every day, but the sun is hidden by the walls of the fjord. Another summer posting to remind us that winter will eventually be over. -- source link
