carsthatnevermadeitetc: Hispano Suiza H6C Tulipwood Torpedo, 1924, by Nieuport. A one-off commissioned by André Dubonnet who wanted a lightweight body suitable for racing and touring. Built by aircraft manufacturer Nieuport, the bodywork was formed of 3/4-inch thick wooden ribs covered with 1/8-inch wooden veneer. Once the body was sealed and varnished it weighed approximately 160 pounds. Powered by a 200hp 8 litre engine, Dubonnet drove it to sixth place in the Targa Florio road race and won the Coppa Florio -- source link
