Hiking the treetopsThis is the canopy walkway in Malaysia’s Taman Negara National Park. The park’s name translates literally to “National Park”, so writing it the way I just did is quite redundant.The park sits in an area that has remained a tropical rainforest for literally millions of years; isolated from the Arctic that it has been somewhat shielded from the expansions and contractions of the major ice sheets. It is Malaysia’s oldest national park, having been declared in 1938-1939.The Canopy Walkway sits in the canopy, the top layers of the trees, suspended tens of meters (~100 feet) above the ground. 10 different bridge sections extend between the treetops. Originally built by researchers to travel between the trees, the walkways are now open to the public and have become a major tourist attraction.
