Forest like this one, called “laurisilva,” once covered southern Europe. Today only pockets of laurisilva exist on isolated islands in the Atlantic, thanks to climactic changes and human interference. (These particular pictures are from Madeira, which has the largest laurisilva.) The forest is mainly comprised of evergreen trees and bushes with flat, dark green leaves, and the animals that rely on them. -- source link
