Farrier day today: Zara got her front shoes replaced, and Jaeger got at least an inch of hoof cut off because he hasn’t been seen by a farrier in forever. Jaeger was mostly good: just really bad about the one rear hoof.Then when I was bringing them out to pasture Hale randomly shoved his head in a basket and grabbed a plastic bag and like. A strap or something, and I had to whip his head with the rope to get him to drop it like a dog.They’re so much trouble sometimes.I got Quattro and we rode briefly in the arena, and then they had a small break in the grass before we went out to trail ride. It was really nice: we went down the road together and all the way to the creek. They both wanted to run, but since Zara just had her hooves done, it wasn’t a good idea to, you know, go galloping.So we turned back. Zara actually decided she wanted to walk along the roadside. Quattro got very grumpy about this because he… wanted to run on the road? He literally kept pulling off the soft nice grass and onto the pavement, and trying to jog ahead.He’s so weird.We got back with minimal grumpy bucking, though. He wasn’t really trying to toss me off, but he’s got this new trick where he yanks his head down when I’m trying to stop him, which reduces tension from the reins.Oh, right. I am also an idiot. I somehow misattached his reins? I have no idea how. But I was riding him with one latch on the wrong ring. I “fixed” it, then. Halfway through a lap realized I attached it to another wrong ring, so I had to stop and actually fix it.I have no idea what happened. I don’t remember undoing his reins at any point?Just a barn mystery. There’s a lot of them.So yeah. Decent day, honestly. Since dumbass has his vaccine and things are getting betterish, he’s been cleared for travel, so he’s going to California for eight days. Hence why he’s been working so much these last few days.But. Time will pass, as it always does, and I’ll be riding again soon.Just have to make sure I don’t spend the entire week in bed, sulking. -- source link
