greek-mythologies:Greeks as Greek Gods [Dione (Διώνη) - Smaragda Karydi (Σμαράγδα Καρύδη)] [Aphrodite, wounded by Diomedes at Troy, returns to Olympos :] And now bright Aphrodite fell at the knees of her mother, Dione, who gathered her daughter into her arms’ fold and stroked her with her hand and called her by name and spoke to her : ‘Who now of the Ouranian (Uranian) gods, dear child, has done such things to you, rashly, as if you were caught doing something wicked?’- Homer, Iliad 5. 370 ff (trans. Lattimore) (Greek epic C8th B.C.) :P.S. According to Homer’s Iliad, Dione was Zeus’ first wife and the mother of Aphrodite. Hesiod in his Theogony identifies her as a daughter of Oceanus and Tethys, hence a Titaness. Her name is the feminine form of Zeus (Dios). Worshiped primarily in Dodona and known as a Mother Goddess, she can heal wounds and assist women in childbirth. She famously helped Leto deliver Apollo and Artemis. This is so beautiful!! I love the colors!! -- source link
