likeniobe:charlotte arrowsmith as cassandra in troilus and cressida at the rsc, 2018How are you finding the work in terms of accessibility?[…] In terms of ‘accessibility’, some scenes are very visual, especially the fight scenes and the music is atmospheric. However the show isn’t made for access, but it shows the reality of when a Deaf person is added to the mix. It’s the reality of a sole Deaf character in a family of hearing people. Cassandra (my role) shows the world how frustrating and emotionally upsetting it is when people choose not or want to understand her. This therefore shows the reality of how access is limited in our Deaf world generally, but it perhaps opens up awareness in new audience members eyes which I would hope in turn is effective for what Greg hopes this play achieves.interview with charlotte arrowsmith, first deaf bsl actor in a mainstream rsc production -- source link
