cats-of-cairo:The Heliopolis district was established as a separate city on the outskirts of Cairo in 1905 by the Belgian industrialist Baron Empain and by Boghos Nubar, son of the Egyptian Prime Minister Nubar Pasha. The new city represented the first large-scale attempt to promote its own architecture, known now as the Heliopolis style which combined the Moorish, Persian and Arabic elements with European touch. Currently it is also a home to many Polish students and scholars for whom the first stop in Egypt is usually the Beit Bulandi, the Polish House (Polish Center of Mediterranean Archeology).Baron Empain palace in Heliopolis is also very impressive. The palace was designed by French architect Alexandre Marcel and decorated by Georges-Louis Claude and inspired by the Hindu temple of Angkor Wat in Cambodia. It was built between 1907 and 1911, in reinforced concrete. (wiki, source of picture): -- source link
