eighthdoctor:peoplejustgetobsessed:ood-life:Even with all of the bad the Master did, the Doctor misses the Timelords so much he is willing to let one as horrible as the Master live.Excu-use meI think there’s something a little flawed with your thinking there.Sure, the Master was a horrible person. Driven mad by the drums in his head, killed lots of people, enslaved the human race in the episode(s) that this gifset was from, (and that doesn’t even scratch the surface of what he’s done) but that isn’t why the Doctor is so broken up about the Master’s death. The Doctor doesn’t just “miss the Timelords so much that he’ll let the Master live”, no.No, apparently, my dear commenter, you’ve forgotten that the Doctor and the Master were friends. They grew up together, they went to school together. Hell I bet they had sleepovers and talked about their crushes together. They went to each other’s houses to do homework together. There’s even some bits and pieces of canon that suggest the Doctor wanted the Master to run away with him when he stole a TARDIS and went off to see the universe. But that didn’t happen. The Doctor is begging the Master to regenerate not only because the Master is the second last Timelord, but he’s pleading for his friend to stay with him. Of all the people who could have come back, it had to be the Master. It /had/ to have been the Doctor’s friend-turned-enemy. And that hurts the Doctor so much. I have a strong feeling that these episodes wouldn’t be nearly as meaningful and intense if it was just some other Timelord that was introduced. It was the Master for a reason.I like to think that when the Master dies here, it’s no longer the Doctor holding the Master’s corpse. No, it’s Theta Sigma crying over his lost best friend, Koschei.End rant.^ Good rant. But it could have been worse. It could have been Romana.(◕‿◕✿) -- source link
