Soviet frontline propaganda banner directed towards Finns (Uhtua,Northern Karelia, June 1942).“Finland is out of bread, but the war is not over yet.” Finlandfought the Soviet Union during the Winter War (1939 – 40) and theContinuation War (1941 – 44). Soviet propaganda during the WinterWar was focused on the idea of “liberating” the Finnish peoplefrom pro-German bourgeoisie and capitalist oppression. During theContinuation War, in contrast, Soviet propaganda became morethreatening and insulting, as the Finns were seen as invaders underthe thumb of Hitler. Instead of trying to convince the people ofcommunist ideals, the message was that Finnish soldiers should desertwhile they still had the chance. This photo was taken when the Finnish-Soviet front had mostlystabilized into trench warfare. -- source link
