As a Communist he joined the Partisan army in 1940 and was captured by Chetniks in 1942. He suffered much before being falsely tried and then shot. He is known as the Montenegrin Che Guevara and was posthumously declared ‘a people’s hero’ in 1953 by Marshal Tito, probably for being able to smile so well whilst having such a short while longer to live. -- source link
