Would nudging it with a foot and teleporting have had the same results? Recall the Hail Hydra and that Steve literally fought Steve and told him about Bucky, and Tony stood in a building which definitely had cameras with his whole iconic goatee out and got thwapped around by the Hulk and dropped the Tesseract all over the floor, scottie gave Tony a tiny heart attack, and there was a whole extra hulk rampaging around, but no, it was Loki picking up the Tesseract which really broke reality.
