Sweeping Snowdate unknow, Meiji EraWinter is nearly upon us here in Northern Japan so I thought this was quite appropriate. I’ve been more interested in 19th Japanese photography recently, partially I suppose because I’m struck with how little things have changed! For those of you who don’t know, I live in a semi-rural town in Fukushima Prefecture and see these kind of scenes regularly. Elderly women still sweep their snow and don handkerchiefs and cleaning outfits similar to the one above. Seeing someone covered in dried rice stalks is less common, but not unheard of! -- source link
