The period between 1960 and 1985 was one of rediscovery and reconceptualization of the female body for Latina and Latin American women artists. Experimental works by artists such as Liliana Porter, Ana Mendieta, Amelia Toledo, and Marta Palau propose the emancipation of the body by rejecting any sense of predetermined social roles or imposed political order. Their work reimagines the body and its possibilities.
