Streetscape, 30th and M Streets, NW, Georgetown, Washington, DC, December 1973.Over the next two decades M Street, one of two major commercial arterials in Georgetown, would be glitzed-up with fancy store fronts and considerable “modernization.” Local shops would be driven out by national chains. In the early 70s M Street was still low-key as buildings of the late colonial and early federal eras housed locally-owned shops on the street level and residences above. The building with the awnings contained one of my favorite restaurants in Georgetown. -- source link
