flamewarp:callmearcturus:You didn’t make MGS2, you made MGS4. Swing and fucking miss, Team Homestuck.MGS2 didn’t have a majority of its runtime based around how solid snake is a horrendous racist and abused Mei LingSorry, let me elaborate. For this particular instance, I am not talking about the many ways that Metal Gear is racist and sexist and has some really awful moments. What I mean is that MGS2 was born from a desire of Kojima to aggressively fuck with the audience who were clamoring for more MGS, but at its core, ti still had heart. It still loved the characters. It still aggressively pushed a message of hope and dedicated Snake to telling people to make a better future. It was a challenging ‘text’ that pushed back against the audience, but it was still beautiful and it was still meaningful.MGS4 was not like that. MGS4 was an act of violence against the canon of Metal Gear. The earliest draft had the main characters being executed, but was changed when the staff revolted. It still remained mean-spirited and did it’s best to “resolve” the questions of the story with the most mundane, retconny answers possible. It broke characterizations gleefully. It spent an entire longass cutscene reminding the players that gamers are bad and violent people. It hated its audience in a way MGS2 did not, and was easily and by miles the worst game in the series. The Epilogue is not MGS2, it’s MGS4. That is my point. -- source link
