You were laughing wholeheartedly, your eyes shut in a wide smile, and Sam’s heart skipped a beat. He was standing in your doorway, looking at where you were perched at your desk, all thought of research abandoned as soon as his familiar frame appeared. “You’d think he would have learned by now,” you managed through your laughter. Sam shook his head. “Well, he hasn’t. He conked out with a pillow under his stomach by like 6 pm. Dean’s got a few weaknesses. But, honestly, pie might be the biggest.”“And the audacity of him to eat the entire thing and then complain about it being peach cobbler instead of apple! That stomach ache serves him right!” you said through a smile.“Yeah, it does,” Sam agreed. A comfortable silence fell for a moment and he found goosebumps rising up his back along with what felt like an electric charge. “Uhh—well, it’s late… I should probably let you get to sleep.”There was something in your expression though that kept his boots rooted where they were. You shrugged, a small smile still on your lips. “Well… I don’t know,” you said softly. Your eyes felt like they were magnetically connected to his. Neither of you wanted to break it. He gave you a questioning look, a quirk of one eyebrow. You subconsciously bit your bottom lip as you took his tall frame, the endless hues of color in his eyes, that strong jaw… and besides that he was just—he was Sam. He was kind and caring and brave and foolish, sure. “You could stay,” you said suddenly.Sam thought he’d heard you wrong. He was frozen for a moment. “W—what?”His hesitancy to believe what he’d heard made you laugh again. “Stay. If you want to.”His mouth opened wordlessly for a moment before he managed to find his voice. He scruffed a hand back through his long hair nervously. His heart was pounding. “I”m sorry. I need you to just say that one more time.”You got up from your seat at your desk and crossed the space to him. Sam felt like your eyes were sparking even in the dim light. You stopped close in front of him and looked up, holding his eyes. “Sam. I’m asking you to spend the night with me. In whatever way you want that to mean.” How many times had he played this moment over in his head, hoping that somehow it would become a reality? He took one more look at you and then stepped closer into you, shutting your door softly behind him. Your smile widened and Sam Winchester was unable to stop himself from kissing you for one second longer.Prompt: “Stay.” -- source link
