kk4everstuff: fixing-bad-comic-art: why-i-love-comics: rightysleeperagent: bumbleshark: new challenge! fix rob liefeld’s art, BUT keep the style consistent! Fuck it ima say it. Rob Liefield’s style isn’t even that bad, it was fresh and original at the time (and imo still is), as he was mostly self taught and has been blackballed and shit on by the comic book industry and community. he…. he drew house style…. in what world is that fresh or original? he was just a cheaper Todd McFarlane which was the style everyone wanted to emulate at the time, I don’t care if he was self taught because he shouldn’t have been, I can serve you a plate of rocks and dirt and be like “oh sorry I’m a self taught chef” and that doesn’t change anything and he absolutely has not been “blackballed” in 2010 he did Prelude to Deadpool corps and was a regular on the DeadpoollCorps series in 2011 HE cancelled a project with Robert Kirkman bc they didn’t like his friends art who was going to take over for him, also in 2011 he did Hawk and Dove, Grifter, Deathstroke, Savage Hawkman, and Deathstroke before HE quit DC in 2012 be he hated Brian Smith bc he would constantly want rewrites on Liefelds shit writing and went back to Image and did a ton of original comics and he had a cameo in the Deadpool movie I see this comments every once a while and I have to imagine it’s a completely contrarian need that fuels them, Rob Liefeld is an arrogant millionaire with no respect for fellow artist or writers, he’s the luckiest man in comic book history and it’s insane that he’s not humble, he absolutely lucked into his biggest creation, Deadpool, who was a bland mercenary who was almost unrecognizable when first created compared to his current version but this is how Liefled explained it in 2016 in the New York Times (incredibly nice of them to interview such a blackballed person, I wonder if they had to sneak him in the back) “If a janitor scripted New Mutants 98, he’d be the co-creator — that’s how it works, buddy. Deadpool does not exist in any way, shape or form without me. I wrote the stories. Like Jim Lee and others, I worked with a scripter who helped facilitate. I chose Fabian, and he got the benefit of the Rob Liefeld lottery ticket. Those are good coattails to ride.” if anything he’s blackballed himself by taking swings at almost everyone, one of him more infamous tweets was “Testament to Deadpool’s appeal and durability is that he thrives regardless of being regulated to D-list talent. Marvel A-list never touches” which when met with huge backlash by people like Rick Remender & Axel Alonso he said "Truth hurts. Did I miss the Brubaker Deadpool arc? The Millar Deadpool arc? The Loeb Deadpool arc. Get over yourself. The flip of my statement is that Marvel doesn’t feature their prize talent on Dpool and the character does well-Mostly newbies, hence D-list”. there’s just like so much he’s done to get into from stealing artwork from other artists (not just copying which he’s also accused of but literally not returning original pencils and ink work of other artist) or, bizarrely, openly bashing other artist he was actively teamed with (like Scott Clark) and honestly just look up why he was originally kicked out of Image (a company he helped found) he’s not a nice person, he’s not a talented person, and he’s an incredibly successful person, he doesn’t need you out here looking like a fool for him fuck it I said it … So, I never really saw the big deal with liefields art. it wasn’t pleasant, it was strange and awkward. But I sorta thought that was the end of it, that people didn’t like him Because of his style. I didn’t know he was the creator of deadpool, or that he was considered a big name. and I certainly didn’t know that he was such an unpleasant and awful person. In the past on this blog, I have said things in defense of him and his style. I genuinely thought he was just a regular Joe who’d gotten lucky with having a friend in the industry or something. I would like to recant most of what I’ve said on this topic because of these new insights. and for the record, I’m also completely self taught, being self taught is not an excuse for not having your fundamentals down. Rob Liefeld is truly his own worst enemy. Last year, he got butt-hurt over the wait of Deadpool debuting in the MCU so he “teased” a lawsuit against Disney.https://boundingintocomics.com/2019/10/08/deadpool-creator-rob-liefeld-teases-legal-action-against-marvel-comics-and-disneys-bob-iger/And he lost the rights to his own creation Youngblood, mostly because of his own bottomless stupidity.https://www.cbr.com/rob-liefeld-control-youngblood-characters/There is not violin tiny enough for this dumb-fuck. -- source link
