Stuart nervously pulled at his collar and glanced around the entrance of the restaurant. He was beginning to question why this all needed to be so formal. Why they couldn’t have had a nice, simple, home cooked family dinner at home. It would’ve meant less worry about who might hear the strangeness of their conversations, and allowed them to be relaxed rather than caught up in the stuffy atmosphere of the restaurant. ‘Stop it,’ Stephie said, gently slapping his hand away from his collar. ‘You look fine.’‘It’s not about that,’ he complained indignantly. ‘I don’t get why we’re here.’‘A surprise for Dad and Melissa,’ Stiles said, a teasing smirk on his face. The treat had been his idea, Stephie had suggested the new restaurant. Scott was designated chauffeur, knowing he was least likely to ruin the surprise out of the four of them. And all Stuart had done was make the actual reservation. None of it had really bothered him until now though; until the final truth of the whole thing came to light. ‘Why here though?’ Stuart asked. ‘Because it’s a nice little thing to do,’ Stephie said softly. ‘A sign of appreciation.’‘Could’ve got them flowers and chocolate or something,’ Stuart said, but he knew where his sister was coming from. This was so far out of their comfort zones, it meant more than the things they could do any time to show their care for the adults in their lives. ‘You do that,’ Stiles said, the smirk deepening as he fiddled with his own top button. ‘We’ll make sure you had nothing to do with this.’‘Ha, ha,’ Stuart said dryly, elbowing his brother in the ribs.
