I had been anticipating TOWER OF DAWN for a long time, hearing it was going to be a full length novel had me excited. But it also pushed back the final book in the series for a whole year. And as the release date got closer I wondered if I was going to love it as much. I was never convinced by the Chaol-Nesryn match and a whole new cast of characters? But of course I shouldn’t have worried. Even when @therealsjmaas takes me down an unexpected road, she always makes it awesome and incredibly worthwhile. I am a huge fan of her writing, especially where it comes to character development. Chaol redeems himself in this book, and it turned out to be a really interesting story that made the pages turn far faster than I wanted . I loved seeing his struggle, coming to terms with his very conflicted feelings for Aelin, and thus it was the mirror reflection of HEIR OF FIRE, overdue and fully complementary. It build the story even further, got me invested in Chaol again instead of having him be that functionless side character you keep for sentimentality’s sake. And it wouldn’t be a Sarah J Maas book if her side-step novel wouldn’t be an ~instrumental~ part of the series. Nothing is accidental with her. And it finally ties in that first novella from THE ASSASSIN’S BLADE that’s been a thorn in my side ever since I read it. I still think the novella was not fleshed out enough, and didn’t carry enough weight on its own. But it makes for an interesting backstory for one of the new main characters and I. Can. Not. Wait until she meets Aelin . Honestly, I live for whenever Aelin meets anyone, I’m not kidding. I really admire Sarah J Maas for writing a lead character that is difficult to live with, but who you look up to. Who you admire, but still admonish for her trust issues with people who’ve almost literally gone through hell for her and who deserve it. Seriously, I just live for this series as a whole.
