It’s August and that means Brooklyn Museum is hosting Summer Camp! Each week during the summer, campers between 8-13 year olds get to participate in different activities and projects inspired by the Brooklyn Museum’s vast collection. This week, campers are exploring sculpture and animation, with a particular focus on Ancient Egyptian Art. As part of their week’s activities, they will also be working with the museum’s archive to submit a time capsule. To prepare, they stopped by the conservation lab to learn more about how objects, paintings, and works on paper are looked after by museum conservators and how we safeguard them for the future. Campers had great questions about how we make decisions when treating artifacts, the difficulties of cleaning old vs. new artworks, and what happens if works get damaged while on display. Sharing what happens behind the scenes with our young visitors is always fun and gives us an opportunity to see our work from a fresh perspective. Posted by Sasha Drosdick -- source link
