Treasure Chest of Fun and Fact was a comic that ran from the late-‘40s to early '70s and was distributed through Catholic schools. Above are covers for Christmas issues, mostly done by Catholic Worker artist Ade Bethune. The one in the center is by Clara Elsene Peck, who was among the first 20 women to be admitted to the Society of Illustrators. As a well-established and esteemed illustrator as well as a woman, her involvement in comics would have been almost unheard of in the commercial comics industry. Both women are a keen reminder that comics have always been a broader field than most histories of them allow, and there have always been comics for all sorts of audiences. -- source link
