This week we mourn the loss of Dianne Pilgrim, a renowned Decorative Arts scholar, curator, and museum director who served as curator and chairman of the decorative arts department at the Brooklyn Museum from 1973-88. Among her many contributions, Dianne showcased facets of decorative arts from previously overlooked eras of the late 19th and 20th centuries, resulting in the groundbreaking exhibitions The American Renaissance 1876-1917 and The Machine Age in America: 1918-1941, both co-organized with Richard Guy Wilson. In 1980 and 1984 she also led the renovations of our beloved period rooms which had national impact. Dianne championed universal design and its ability to improve life for all people, and was an early advocate for making museums more accessible. She will be truly missed by our entire Brooklyn Museum family. -- source link
