Kaidan* is one of the best bioware characters period.kaidan is an important character for a lot of reasons, waiting to see if david responds. or just blockswe are almost definitely going to get blocked, lol, and it is totally worth itI can’t believe he actually wrote all this, i’m speechlessHE REPLIED TO US and i’d honestly really rather he’d just blocked us??The “sigh” kills me here because it sounds so much like he believes you missed the point when in fact he completely glosses over how offensive his words were.but it’s good you said all this, thank youoh, don’t worry, he made it even worse again!!because even though it was a completely separate tweet, we know who this was directed atOh manAgain, he is rejecting his own responsibility as a writer but also a person working in this industry who must have rules and standards. This isn’t a “personal interpretation” when it comes from the writer itself, it’s basically Word of God. He is also the writer who let a female inquisitor flirt with Cassandra in DA:I, only to slap them in the face mid-game with an extremely hurtful “no homo” dialogue.I’m glad that he is no longer with BioWare, and I hope he never returns.keepin it real classy in the thread there weekes*heavy sigh*Alright, someone fetch my Punch-Up gloves! Soon as I finish writing my formal challenge to David Gaider to meet me in the nearest 7-11 parking lot, I’m gonna need them to kick his ass for all this stupid shit, starting with knocking down on my earnest Canadian boy with the powers that have resulted in his invisible disabilities.I never usually wade into this sort of thing, and probably won’t again, ever, but. OK.To start: I love Kaidan. I love stoics with a barely-hidden sense of humour. I love genuine idealists. (Shallowly: I think he’s really damn cute. Canadian: big plus. Some lovely scars, and an amusing way of talking around the point and structuring sentences I recognise from some friends.) I’m immensely fond, and he has so much complexity and so many different arcs depending on what kind of Shepard you play and how you choose to deal with him. Beautifully written space bloke. I have very rare migraines, maybe once or twice a year, but I deal with minor chronic pain and I also tell you, it was… a little touching to see someone who dealt with that and a weird metabolism and had to deal with blood-sugar drops, was an introvert who wanted to help people but found them a little exhausting sometimes, and didn’t like himself when he was angry. That said: Keep readingI did, in fact, read your response and I have to agree. As a person who has a “wtf gaider?” tag and who has been called an asshole by him right here on the tumblrs, I certainly don’t stan for the man but Jesus this response was way out of proportion to what he said. He’s not Kaidan’s writer. He has no insight into Kaidan’s character. His tweet was obviously, to me, him musing about the fact that because he didn’t save Kaidan on Virmire he had a very shallow understanding of his character. Also, I was about six feet away from him, watching him wipe his eyes and hearing him choke up talking about how important Dorian was to him as a gay man and as a writer, and how his family’s reaction to him coming out was difficult for him, so I have a hard time getting mad at him for not having worked out 100% of his internalized homophobia.Dude has no filter. He’s not nice. And he seems to very much glory in conflict with people. When he’s behaving like that, absolutely punch up. But in this specific instance I have a hard time even understanding what the fuss is about. This reminds me very much of a kerfuffle that arose after one of the World of Thedas books came out and Loghain’s wife, who is named Celia in game dialogue, was named Maeve. A bunch of people who really like Loghain got very upset and claimed that this was further evidence that BioWare clearly didn’t care about Loghain. What it probably actually was, in both of these cases, is general human carelessness. Gaider doesn’t care about a character he didn’t much interact with so he didn’t bother to make a nuanced assessment of him. BioWare doesn’t care about a character who has never appeared in the games, books, or other media, so they didn’t bother to fact check that they hadn’t previously named her. It’s not an attack on either of the actual game characters or a sign that they’re disrespected by their writers/developers/publishers. They also got the birth order of the Aeducan kids wrong and fucked up a bunch of dates.(Also iPhone autocorrects Kaidan to Kaiden so if you’re not paying attention it’s an easy mistake, one I almost made several times in this post despite deeply caring about Kaidan as a character.) -- source link
