In 1967 there were still 17 states that banned marriage between whites and non-whites (16 former slave states plus Oklahoma). While the laws were no longer enforceable after 1967, South Carolina and Alabama did not amend their constitutions to remove the laws until 1998 and 2000 respectively. In 2009 a justice of the peace in Louisiana was sued and later forced to resign for refusing to marry an interracial couple. -- source link
