The Jennings/Bryco/Jimenez J-22. The J stands for Junk!If you’re lucky you may find this gun in a box of fruit loops one day. My dad bought one for around $50 in the early 80’s. Today you can get your own for around $100. I will come out and say it, this pistol is a piece of shit! However it is a piece of shit with a legacy. What the M1 Garand is to fine quality historic firearms, the J-22 is to cheaply made junk guns. Production began in the and 80’s by Jennings. Then Jennings went broke and was bought out by Bryco. Bryco then went bust but like the phoenix reborn the model was again taken up by Jimenez.. The J-22 is a .22 long rifle striker semi-automatic pistol with a 6 round magazine. It is extremely cheap, lightweight, and campact. Amazingly it can be accurate. I was able to hit every steel target in my 25 yard plinking range, even the smallest steel swivel targets. However, the pluses end there. It is very prone to jams, misfires, and a whole range of malfunctions. Quality ammunition improves performance, but not by much. It must be cleaned obsessively in order to properly function, however it still may not properly function. The springs critical to gun functioniong have a tendency to wear out quickly. Overall, it is very cheaply made. Everything except the barrel is made of low grade stamped aluminum alloy. The grips are plastic. It is not a gun that will last.I consider this pistol to be one of the worst firearms ever created. Recently my father offered me his. I declined. -- source link
