imliterallyacommunist:tonkystarkks:bethgrop2010:billy-batson: did they just say they wanted them to show steve’s depression on screen in the form of suicidal ideation and destructive coping mechanisms other than the healthy coping mechanism he’s found in working out. did they just say that they wanted to see bucky’s ptsd shown on screen like tony’s…do. do tonies realize that people react to trauma differently or are they really just this. ignorant? so y'all are gonna say he can act abusive JUST cos he’s mentally ill and has ptsd?? just cos he shows his mental illness in unhealthy ways ?? well DAMN if having a mental illness gets me a protection squad, i should have like seven subsets of groups for each mental illness, ptsd included ! :) This is so stupid, Tony’s “issues” are very reckless and endangering to others as we have noticed the last 9 films he has been in, his “issues” does not ever change or grow. He tried to grow and then went back to doing the same thing. Every single one of these characters has some form of depression and ptsd, for Goodness sakes, and how they are portraying their issues is a lot healthier and better for people and for themselves then every thing tony does. He nor anybody should be praised for acting out in this manor. I don’t care what kind of issues you have, you can seek help and find ways to cope without hurting yourself and others.he was egotistical and disgusting before the ptsd but alright“So tell me, Tony haters… what is it you really don’t like about Tony Stark?”Arrrrgh, I’m really trying to stay out of the anti-Tony/anti-Steve debates for my blood pressure’s sake, but I’m giving in for this one.Because a wise person (online, no idea who) said: “A diagnosis is not a license to asshole.”It damn well isn’t a license to harm others without consequences, least of all the anger that results.Nobody on either side of this meta has ever denied Tony Stark has PTSD. It’s beyond question. It’s open and plainly-spoken canon in both the comics and the movies. Damn near every incarnation of the Iron Man stories has at one time or another said outright that Tony has PTSD.Neither PTSD nor any other mental condition - short of a delusion/hallucination that obliterates the person’s ability to see reality and/or tell right from wrong. Tony’s PTSD DOES. NOT. QUALIFY. (The Hulk might.)So when Tony physically attacks someone and keeps on attacking after they’re disabled, it’s attempted murder. Is “extreme emotional disturbance” over the video a mitigating factor? Sure. But he was lucid and responsible for his actions. Is his distress over Rhodey’s injury an excuse for shooting Sam - a complete bystander and attempted rescuer? Hell. Fucking. No.Is his guilt over Charlie Spencer a mitigating factor in signing all the OTHER Avengers (including those who can’t just take off their engagements and stroll off to a mansion) up for a fascist and genocidal regime? Hell fucking no.Is his PTSD an excuse for conscripting a teenager and then ignoring him until the kid almost gets several hundred people killed? Nope.Is his PTSD an excuse for his frequent cruelty to Pepper or Rhodey, to say nothing of other women and men who did absolutely nothing to him? (Oh wait, a lot of this predates his kidnapping by the Ten Rings, so I’m going with no.)People angry over Tony’s treatment of people have every reason to be, and his PTSD doesn’t exempt him from those reactions. Nor are those reactions in any way connected to his PTSD - they’re about his ACTIONS.Ya know, I actually like Tony. I do so while still recognizing he’s often an inexcusable asshole - and worse. But I also think the MCU (and RDJ himself with his plot line demands, despite his undeniable acting skill) has warped his redemption arc further and further away from actual redemption, which the character desperately needs. You can’t dig out of the hole. And I dunno how you can claim to be pro-Tony while denying 75% of what makes up his character. -- source link
