What Dirk was saying, in effect, was that they needed to be less like themselves -less unique- and he was doing this in a way true to his own sense-of-self. Dirk was attempting to “destroy” their “Hearts” on a small scale for their benefit, and he was doing that through the application of his own incisive-self.
