That time that Deadpool made a Copyright Friendly Cameo in the DCU Well ONE of the times There was also an arc of Priest’s run on Deathstroke where he ends up teaming up with an Arkham inmate who is pretty heavily implied to literally be Wade Wilson It also helps that former Deadpool writers Joe Kelly and Ed McGuiness were working on that annual. Plus true facts, Deadpool was basically created as a Deathstroke rip off Hard to believe now, when Wade is both a better character and better person but yeah back when he was first created by Rob Lifield he was full on a Deathstroke rip off…his name was Wade Wilson instead of Slade’s Slade Wilson, his name was Deadpool instead of Deathstroke and back then he wasn’t so much the Merc with the Mouth as he was just a fairly generic mercenary character…a LOT of the stuff that’s now crucial to Deadpool as a character like his weird sense of humour, his nonstop talking, his fourth wall awareness and the fact that underneath all that there is a good person…that was thanks to later writers adding layers and depth to him and fleshing him out…when he first showed up he basically was just a somewhat more chatty and less serious Deathstroke clone As time went on other writers came along and turned him into the Deadpool we know and love now and even then, Marvel would sometimes backtrack on that…he got a lot of very inconsistent writing over the years but then when the movie came out that focused on the best aspects of the writing he’d gotten and was a big hit Marvel basically went “Okay yes more of that” I am full of Comics Trivia like a christmas cracker except instead of a prize and a joke you get comic book history you did not ask for and don’t know what to do with The annoying thing about Deadpool’s relation to Liefeld is that while Rob was very vocal at how future writers “ruined“ Deadpool by turning him into the version we know today (to the point where he created a new character to be “Deadpool done right”), he still went around collecting phrase as the creator of Deadpool when the first movie came about. That was some Bob Kane stuff, all I’m saying. -- source link
