#Repost @scum2000 (@get_repost)・・・Racism is not a day to day event that happens outside of the context of our country and history. Racism is a systemic form of oppression bred into our everyday lives to normalize the abuse and mistreatment of people of color. The things we believe today, the way our entire country is set up, is all reliant on our history of chattel slavery, genocide, and segregation. If you think this white man born into money is speaking against black Americans specifically in an unbiased or acceptable manner, you’re a part of the problem. As much as racism is a system that must be dismantled, you need to investigate your own internalized prejudices and be unafraid in destroying them. I can speak from experience when I talk about these things. If you had met me six years ago, I would have still believed that reverse racism was a real issue, that slavery was an event too far in the past to reference, and that freedom of speech was an acceptable excuse for upholding beliefs that steal rights from marginalized people. Today, I can recognize the privilege I was born with. Regardless of my background in poverty, I have been given much more than many other people because the system we live in rewards lighter skin and punishes darker skin. Take a moment today to reflect on your privileges. If you decided to peacefully protest something, would your rights be infringed upon? Do you face day to day racist harassment? Do you get called slurs that were made during the lowest moral points in our history? Do you have to worry about racism affecting your ability to get jobs or other opportunities? Do you have to battle stereotypes about your skin color every single day? Do others make you feel less than human? These are all valuable things to explore in order to understand what others with less privilege have to face everyday. #racism #colinkaepernick #nfl -- source link
