su-o:Downton Abbey’s Penelope Wilton on being a shoeless hippyThis photo was ( taken in 1968 when I was an aspiring actress, just out of drama school. I didn’t have any money for publicity shots but the photographer Cornel Lucas, who was married to my cousin, very kindly said he’d do one for me. I like this picture because it reminds me of that era and of the way I was when I was just starting out. As you can see, I painted my eyelashes on to my face – and they got even longer when the 1970s arrived. It was the hippy era and I was rather that way inclined. We all were.We went around in long skirts and no shoes. It was bohemian, but in a quiet way. We weren’t taking drugs and behaving like Allen Ginsberg or anything like that.Looking back, I was completely green – I hadn’t done anything professionally – but I was very relaxed posing for Cornel because I’d known him since I was 10 years old and, with his enormous energy, he was such fun to be around. -- source link
