My mom got my brother a dsi xl for Christmas of 2010 (the 25th anniversary of super mario bros edition) & he stepped on it breaking the upper screen. I ordered a parts bronze one online & simply swapped the motherboard & lower screen since the touch digitizer was broke on the one I ordered for parts. This left me all the old parts so I decided to order a new upper screen and digitizer for it which cost about $16 total.I had to desolder the speakers from old screen ribbon to new which was easy. Getting the ribbon cables through the hinge area was a real pain & I fiddled so much trying to do so I’m surprised it worked (the cameras don’t work so I must have damaged the ribbon cable on it but I don’t care since never used them anyways) & I’m not going to fold it ever because I’m afraid it will cause the ribbon cable issues. At any rate for $16 and some aggravation I have a great working dsi & I must say I think it’s going to be my go to handheld from here on. Perfect for those mario kart ds time trials much more comfortable than my launch 3ds for that. Speakers on these things are amazing. -- source link
