Court yard of basilica San Clemente in Rome. This is among my favourite places in Rome. The current church is from the early 12th century and was built by cardinal Anastasius. It was thought that the church had to be rebuild after a norman warlord Robert Guiscard and his troops had sacked Rome. Some modern scholars have though rebuked this story as a myth. Be as it may the church is an interesting place. There are splendid medieval mosaics to be seen and one can also visit a 4th century church and a mithra temple that are located under the current basilica. And if you’re on medieval mood after leaving this place there the church of Santi Quattro Coronati is also nearby :) -- source link
