thegermansmakegoodstuff:thefrogman:Preface: I agree that this is highly unprofessional and that the cop should hold himself to a higher standard. He could have written her up for resisting arrest and assaulting an officer. Both would have been more effective punishment than kicking her.HOWEVER…To all those people saying “I fucking hate cops”… if some crazy drunk woman shin kicked you, by reflex alone, I’m betting you would have kicked her right back. It’s easy being righteous from afar. This cop is most certainly an ass, but there are so many good cops that go unnoticed. A good cop is not a compelling story for the news. They do a thankless job for little pay. They come when we call. They head into the danger. They protect and serve. You will never hear me make some blanket remark that all cops are bad and it makes me sad when others do. I was a law enforcement major once. I wanted to help people. I got out because my head was in the clouds and I didn’t realize what the people who majored in law enforcement were actually like. The entire culture was completely contradictory to who I am, and I had no idea. The guys were mostly power-tripping frat boys, and the girls thought CSI was real. This was one of the top law enforcement schools in the country. There are lots of good, smart people in law enforcement, and you’re right, they really don’t get enough recognition. But when you see something like this happen and your first thought is “think of the good cops!” you are turning a blind eye to how widespread police brutality really is. You don’t seem to give a shit about police brutality anyway, because your first reaction to seeing something like this is “you would’ve done the same thing!” No, actually I don’t think I would ever kick a woman on the ground, in handcuffs, in the fucking face, no matter how drunk I might think she is. What the hell is wrong with you. -- source link
