yarnyfan:#SPN 10 Countdown Challenge | day 23: S7E1Featured music: “These Boots Are Made For Walkin’”, by Nancy Sinatra, playing in Crowley’s hideout when Castiel appears.Crowley is… slumming. This isn’t his mansion. He’s not drinking Glencraig. He’s reduced to getting information from a television, practically an antique. I think we can hazard a guess that this might not be his usual taste in music, either.Yeah, you keep lyin’ when you oughta be truthin’ And you keep losing when you oughta not bet You keep samin’ when you oughta be a changin’ Now, what’s right is right but you ain’t been right yetThese boots are made for walking And that’s just what they’ll do One of these days these boots Are gonna walk all over youYou keep playin’ where you shouldn’t be playin’And you keep thinkin’ that you’ll never get burnt Ah, I’ve just found me a brand new box of matches, yeah And what he knows you ain’t had time to learnThese boots are made for walkingAnd that’s just what they’ll doOne of these days these boots Are gonna walk all over youWhen Castiel appears in the RV, he’s got the upper hand. Crowley’s warding turned out to be useless, and Castiel having the Purgatory souls left him at an insurmountable power disadvantage. He seemed to expect to be smote - or did he? Knowing the warding was useless, he might have deduced that if Castiel actually intended to destroy him, he would have done so already. Crowley is, of course, utterly pragmatic - so of course he accepted Castiel’s terms for, basically, surrender. But the scene was introduced with a song about revenge on a cheating lover. We find out a few episodes after this that Crowley views reneging on a deal as the Worst Thing You Could Possibly Do - to the extent that he destroyed one of his own demons for cashing in contracts early - there was no way he was going to let this kind of betrayal stand. He may have noticed the beginnings of damage to Cas’s vessel, and simply been willing to let that take its course - effective, if somewhat emotionally unsatisfying. He was certainly willing enough to help the Winchesters bind Death, knowing their intention was to kill Cas - which, needless to say, didn’t go quite as expected. Other opportunities came and went - he had to let Cas live long enough to identify the head Leviathan; he overestimated the degree to which Cas was disabled by the angel-blade bullet the next time they encountered each other. There have been occasions where Crowley has let an apparent betrayal slide - the demon working at the NSA also feeding information to Abaddon, for example. But this was something on a far greater scale - this betrayal, Crowley may never let go; it’s just a question of waiting for the right time, the right means, the right opportunity. Whatever motivations Crowley may have ultimately had for asking Dean to take on the Mark of Cain, knowing it would hurt Cas probably counted towards the upside - but really, the business is still unfinished between them, and they both know it.And now Crowley and Cas are apparently going to be working together in the upcoming season. Crowley’s put this grudge aside in the name of accomplishing more pressing goals before, and he’s going to have to do it again - but will he let it go altogether? Can he let it go? It’s certainly going to be a complication, as things go forward.(Lyrics from Metrolyrics; screencaps from HOTN). -- source link
