good-lord-not-books:the-forest-library:Some favorites from a book sale yesterdayOh! You got a Ballantine version of the book! I have the whole set! They’re interesting. Essentially, the “Authorized Editions” were published after another publishing house brought Tolkien’s work to the US, but were not authorized to do so (they didn’t have the rights). So, when Ballantine books published them, they made sure to let readers know that they were buying an absolutely authorized version of Tolkien’s work. Funnily enough, Tolkien mentioned that he hated the covers of these books, mainly because he didn’t understand why they included creatures like lions and emus on the covers. I like to nerd out about this set!@good-lord-not-books That’s so interesting about the “authorized” version. I was wondering what the story was there. And, I think the note about the covers is hilarious because I’m buying them as I find them specifically for the covers since they are so weird and fun. I have The Two Towers in addition to The Hobbit so far. -- source link
