drtanner:I’ve been trying to get this guy out of my system for two weeks, and I finally managed to get him nailed down, I think. I’m pretty pleased with how he came out in the end! I’m not even going to try to lie about this; this is a Flight Rising fanbreed because there’s a void in my heart for heavy, brick-shaped dragons and the ever-so-slightly dodgy art on Snappers has meant that they haven’t been able to fill it the way that they rightly should have done. So, I made the Flathead (although, they prefer to be called “Chargers”, and it’s not wise to call one a “Flathead” to its face). The Charger’s prominent features, its tusks and forward-facing horns, are used equally in foraging and in combat, and its dense, tightly-curled “mane”, is less impressive than that of a Tundra, but far better suited to providing protection from teeth, claws and goring horns. It’s not pretty, and it’s more often than not matted with grease, blood, dust, or some combination of the three and full of parasites, but it gets the job done. They eat just about anything but seafood; the Abiding Boneyard is a tough place, and one has to take what they can get, but you’ll never once find any fish there, no matter how hard you look. Chargers can quite often be heard at dawn and dusk, their small travelling groups “talking” to each other with their awful bellowing call, like some horrible mix of lion and bull, after the day’s search for food is over with, or just as it’s about to begin. After all, when there’s so little to go around, it’s best to stick to your own patch, unless you want to get into a fight with someone who is understandably eager to safeguard their own sources of food from would-be encroachers. Letting everybody know where you are gives them the opportunity to walk in the other direction. They’re far too heavy to fly, but the Flathead’s wings have remained fairly large because they’re used primarily for display purposes, and for helping a Charger who is charging - because they do that, they do it a lot and they do it with tremendous vigor - steer or come to a stop in a hurry, which can be fairly difficult with their bulk. All in all, they’re big, ugly, filthy, smelly things with quite a bit more brawn than brain. They’re made to survive, above all else - the beauty contests can go to other breeds, with easier, less fierce lives. Plaguemomma would probably love them.Look at this ugly, smelly lump I drew last night, guys. -- source link
