I’m just now realizing I never posted this OC profile. I figured it’d be fitting to share him here, given my blog colors & name. His name is Colby, and he’s a bowerbird harpy. These harpies are predispositioned to hyperfixate on blue objects and collect them to offer to a mate, but Colby takes it to a new level; He has no interest in finding a mate, and instead wants to fill a cathedral with beautiful blue ornamentation. Polite and well-mannered; He tends to be shy, but warms up to people if they show they don’t have malicious intentions. Highly intelligent and resourceful; has managed to get himself out of many dangerous situations. Almost always on-guard, but wants to assume the best of people, so he can sometimes be gullible. He shows a great deal of gratitude to people who give him what he wants.-He thinks the Becky Lemme Smash meme is hysterical.Biography:Like other Bowerbird harpies, Colby had a deep fascination for anything in a deep royal blue. Unlike the rest of his kin, however, he showed almost no interest in collecting blue artifacts just to attract a potential romantic partner. He wanted to do something more with them; to create elaborate works of art like the grand European stained glass cathedrals that he’d read about. More than that, he had a longing to explore the world. He also believed that a male showing off the biggest treasure hoards just to claim they loved someone was superficial. But his clan labelled him as a hoarder. He was accused of being selfish for not wanting to share his findings with a partner, or not wanting to have children since their race was already a rarity. Tired of the judgment, Colby ran away to explore the world.He sought out a Mage who was able to enchant his favorite sapphire necklace to allow him to teleport to any place he had once been, so long as the place held a significant memory for him. As he traveled, Colby found an abandoned stone cathedral deep within a forest, which he claimed as his home and started to store all his findings. Throughout his various treasure hunts he’s collected everything from bottles to huge glass ornaments, lost treasure, elaborate tapestries, figurines, mysterious potions, and ancient scepters with untold powers. He’s gotten into trouble a few times when being unaware that certain magic artifacts weren’t supposed to be removed from their housing.In just the span of ten years, Colby has either built or acquired windows, archways, pulley-platforms, a kiln, sewing wheels, ceramic wheels and a workshop for creating blue dyes. Though sometimes he grows lonely in his personal isolated paradise, he has made many friends and allies and visits them fairly frequently and allows other sentient creatures and magical races to view his home. He hopes someday to find a partner that loves travelling and art as much as he does, and once his cathedral has reached perfection, he wants to make it viewable by humans who show respect and care for nature and for art. -- source link
