dreams-of-whales: J40 “Suttles” tail lobbing yesterday. She is a little-mentioned but lovely whale. The middle child of J14 “Samish”, she is named for Wayne Suttles who was an anthropologist and linguist who worked closely with the Coast Salish nation and was a great friend to them. He passed away in 2005 when she was just approaching her first birthday and because the Salish Nation hold the honor of naming all whales born to the J14s they named her Suttles (at the time her gender was not known) in remembrance for their lost friend. -- source link
