Almost every plant collection has some number of NOIDS - plants who cannot be identified for one reason or another. Without the original environment to give clues and some species or hybrids being too similar, if a tag has been lost it might be relegated to this status forever. This plant is one such in my collection - a division from a tagless plant, shared with me by a local grower.I believe this plant is from the epiphytic genus, Neoregelia, within Bromeliaceae, the family which contains airplants, spanish moss, and even pineapple! More specifically, I think it is either a hybrid of, or is, the species Neoregelia pauciflora, given an epithet which means few-flowered. The flowers emerge from the cup which is often full of water (and can be seen reflecting in the traditional light image).I’ve photographed the flowers of Tillandsia aeranthos and Tillandsia usneoides, and found both to be far less charismatic than this one which ranks highly among my favorite UVIVF subjects. -- source link
