wocinsolidarity:the-exercist:eresahand:#america #center #fitness #funny #in #stairs #meanwhileThis escalator is a good way for the gym to be far more inclusive and caring towards its visitors. This gym has confirmed that the escalators lead right to the handicapped doorway entrance. In this situation, where the gym entrance is placed up a full flight of stairs, having escalators there would be helpful for two reasons:1. People who have difficulty standing upright or navigating the stairs could still visit the gym for upper body workouts, cardio, or even physical therapy. Someone with a crutch or walking cane would be able to get to the doors without significant trouble. (Based on the photo, I’d even assume that they have a street level entrance and elevator inside for wheelchair-bound visitors.)2. People who “went hard” at the gym and now are experiencing significantly sore legs can still get home. Going up or down stairs can be AWFUL when your legs are cramping and still healing. Sometimes, it can feel nearly impossible. Having an escalator allows people to exercise without having to worry about whether or not they’ll end up falling head first down an entire flight of stairs once their cramps hit.And let’s not ignore the underlying fatphobia here. Is this an “America” thing because it’s meant to be a commentary on how we have an obese population? Shame on you. No matter what their workout looks like, it’s never going to be enough: When you’re looking for an excuse to demean someone for being fat or lazy, an escalator apparently negates all other physical activity throughout the day, even when you know that they’re visiting this building for the sake of staying active. I can see why this would seem funny at first glance, but we’re all capable of taking more than .02 seconds to evaluate a potential joke and look at what’s actually happening in the photo. This business definitely knows that they’re doing. Gyms are one of the most important places where you have to consider the needs of multiple body types, not to mention that the US has lots of legislation that requires buildings to be accessible to people with various handicaps. It’s not a bad thing. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -- source link
