Adding on to the already large pile of vouivre drawings in my gallery: this! You might be asking: why though? Well, firstly, I wanted to draw something I was comfortable with. My hypochondria has been running me through the roof lately. Even as I’m writing this I have a headache and have to bat away thoughts about looking up the signs of a stroke or aneurysm. Secondly, I wanted to try out a more unconventional silhouette. All the Mesopotamian demons have been kept inside circles and I wanted to try out a different shape to spice things up. I sketched it inside a triangle, thought about furthering it with a bunch of fire, then bam, lady in fire. Which brings me to thirdly, after getting to that point I wanted to try to draw it while also displaying other aspects of its nature aside from the obvious draconic one. For those of you who do not know, a vouivre (or guivre) is a French being that acts like a dragon guarding treasure. It is also entirely female and connected to the story of Melusine, with some versions even saying they’re fairies in the shape of serpents. In the night sky they can appear as shooting stars or fireballs. But almost never in the shape of just a plain old human woman. So I wanted to show that, as a mythical creature with multiple aspects to its being, it can shape-shift, or its appearance can radically change between them or be an ambiguous combination of any and all. Here it is both a dragon, fire, and a women, although not explicitly so. (Well, the snake tiddies are a little explicit, just don’t tell the cops). Fourthly, in line with this being a comfort drawing I didn’t want to color it. My mind went to the monochrome, four-tone style I did with two other dragon drawings. I actually did want to add in Drake here, since it would tie in with the theme of her just naturally attracting dragons for some reason, but alas. She may have ruined the composition too much for my eyes to judge. Maybe later. Also, in a further twist of luck, this is another drawing I would be tempted to animate if I had the patience. Like a Pokémon battle-sprite. -- source link
