catsbeaversandducks:“The happy face of a pig who just realized she will never be experimented on in a laboratory ever again. This morning we took in a new foster girl who has been tested on in a research laboratory for the past year. Before today she had never seen the sun or felt the earth beneath her feet. She has never even tasted a fresh vegetable. When she arrived, she was trembling, and was so terrified that she wouldn’t leave her crate for more than three hours. It honestly broke my heart to see the fear in her eyes. Animal testing is a cruelty I will never understand and never, ever support. After a few hours and lots of gentle encouragement, something shifted. It’s like she realized that we weren’t there to poke and prod her—that all we wanted was to cuddle and welcome her to a happy new life. She took that first step out of the crate…and within moments, she was kissing us, hugging us (pigs do this by dramatically leaning into you) and literally SINGING! We named her Fiona, and I’ve been calling her Fifi. It was an honor to run with her for her first time bounding in the sunshine. She will never again be deprived of comfort and joy.
