Thucydides 3.82.4 from P. Oxy LVII.3877 (early 2nd century CE). The papyrus seems to be a collection of excerpts probably for school or scholarly use rather than part of a whole edition, although the hand is professional, so clear that even I can actually read the words and fill in what’s missing. The last seven letters on the last line are the quintessentially Thucydidean word ΕΥΠΡΕΠΗ[Σ] (”specious”), the overriding concern and the leitmotiv of this whole passage (3.82.3 is the “corruption of language” bit of the Stasis at Corcyra). I can’t think of a better word if you are going to get one word of Thucydides almost in toto.(actually that’s a lie; ΠΡΟΦΑΣΙΣ would be even better. And we have ΜΕΛΛΗΣΙ[Σ] in the line above, but that’ snot as exciting) -- source link
