Today’s compilation:Give ‘Em Enough Dope Volume Two1995Future Jazz / Trip Hop / DowntempoPretty damn good comp of mid-90s jazzy and chill UK trip hop tunes provided by the Wall of Sound label, which was a prominent outlet for that type of fare back then. However, only one of these tunes actually comes from Wall of Sound themselves; the rest are mostly from other UK labels that had the same specialty as they did. So, in that regard, this album is a solid landscape of jazzy UK trip hop in general and not just a singular label trying to promote its own material. And the big names, like DJ Food, Kruder & Dorfmeister, and Portishead aren’t actually the ones who end up delivering the true goodies on this. Those groups might’ve drawn people to throw down some of their hard-earned pounds in the first place, but it’s actually the lesser known and mostly forgotten acts who make this release well worth the listen. Plus, the closer comes courtesy of a short-lived trio that had Fatboy Slim in it, well before he’d go on to become the face of big beat, and before he’d even adopt his Fatboy Slim moniker, too.Highlights:Hustlers Of Culture - “Herbs And Spices”T-Power vs M.K. Ultra - “Horny Mutant Jazz”Akasha - “Mescalin”Soundscape - “The Journey Within (Pre-Emptive Dub)”Freakpower In Dub - “My Heart Sings” -- source link
