      Lightning flashed and your breathing shuttered.      The tiny motel shook and you squeezed your eyes shut.      Thunder cracked and -      “Sam!”      Your boyfriend woke with a jolt as you buried your face in his chest.      “Woah, Y/N. Are you okay?” he asked, panic in his deep, sleep-thick voice.      You shook your head jerkily and bunched your hands in the soft fabric of his shirt, refusing to open your eyes lest you see another menacing flash of lighting. “It’s the thunder,” you whispered, embarrassed that someone like you - that a hunter - couldn’t handle a little storm.      Sam released a tense breath and tightened his arms around your waist, fingers rubbing comfortingly along your back.      “Really?” he asked, voice gentle and soothing. “Why didn’t you tell me you were afraid of thunderstorms? I would have stayed up with you.”      “Because …” You turned your face further into his broad chest, avoiding his gaze. “I was embarrassed.”      Sam let out the lightest of laughs, not meant to mock but simply in shock that you would think such a thing. “Don’t be,” he said, pushing a loose strand of hair back from your face in an attempt to see you. “Everyone’s afraid of something.”      “You’re not,” you said meekly.      “That’s not true.” There was a pause and you finally managed to pry your eyes open, looking up at your boyfriend inquisitively. “I’m afraid of clowns.”      Your eyes widened. “Really?”      “Oh yeah - I hate those red-nosed freaks. So please,” Sam gently pressed the tip of his finger into your chin, prompting you to look up into his hazel eyes. “Don’t ever be afraid to tell me something.”      You smiled sweetly up at the man you loved, ready to thank him and agree, but were cut short by another thundering crack outside the motel’s thin door.      You slammed your eyes shut again, pressing yourself into Sam’s side. But this time he was ready.      His grip immediately tightened around you, holding you to him and murmuring softly. “It’s okay,” he whispered, bringing his fingers up to run through your hair. “I’ve got you.”      Another crack sounded.      “I’ve got you.”      And he did.      For the next hour he held you, whispering softly in your ear, doing all he could to distract you from the storm raging outside.
