Playstation 1 Processing PowerDid you ever own one of these? One of the neatest bits of trivia I read earlier this year is that a cousin of these is about to fly past Pluto. The New Horizons spacecraft has several computer processing chips on it; multiple computers allow for duplication since the spacecraft only has one shot at the flyby and different computers handle the navigation and the actual data processing. All those computers run a 12 MHz Mongoose-V chip, a close relative of the MIPS R3000 processor that ran the original Playstation. The Playstation 3 was released in 2006, the same year the New Horizons Spacecraft launched.-JBBImage credit: “PlayStation-SCPH-1000-with-Controller” by Evan-Amos - Own work.
