alwaysbewoke:i always think about this quote whenever someone tries to poke holes in blm movement by showing some black person or people taking it to the extreme and wanting to see white people dead. they act like black people have no reason, no cause for such anger and hatred of white people (especially white racists). they usually live in this bubble where they’ve convinced themselves that racism was just this small little thing that happened and was no big deal instead of what it actually was and is, an ongoing assault on the very lives of black people that has cost us millions of lives and still affect us to this day. they have no guts to face the truth that white people, white supremacy, white racial hatred is the inciting incident and that even the virulent reaction happens within that context. they are, as i have said often, intellectually inferior and just purely gutless. however paulo puts it beautifully, “violence is initiated by those who oppress, who exploit, who fail to recognize others as persons — not by those who are oppressed, exploited, and unrecognized.” the inciting incident that has brought out the unfettered wrath and anger in some against white people is 400+ years, 7 continents and millions of lives destroyed. it is a wrath that has been earned over centuries. paulo also sums up the reaction to this as well “for the oppressors, however, it is always the oppressed who are disaffected, who are “violent,” “barbaric,” “wicked,” or “ferocious” when they react to the violence of the oppressors.” perfectly put. oppressors and those who have joined the oppressors class never see the violence of white supremacy, never see the unabashed, multi-layered, multi-faceted violence of white supremacy. they’ve turned a deaf ear and a blind eye to it but a black person’s reaction to it, if it contains any aggression is the problem. that’s wicked. that’s barbaric. it’s a classic and i’m not saying anything most “fans” of my blog don’t know but it’s so evil to see. it’s akin to getting upset when the rape victim pulls out a gun and shoot her (or his) rapist but that same person never saw or ever having a word to say when that person was doing all that raping right in front of your eyes. smfh. paulo freire, pedagogy of the oppressed. a must read y'all. a must read. -- source link
